Avoid Wet Basements With Good A Sump Pump

Are you tired of your basement flooding every time Spring rolls around? Perhaps the constant clean up and drying out of wet basements has got you at your wit's end.  Ever wonder how other homes keep their basements dry? The answer is a sump pump. A sump pump is a pump that is used to get rid of water that collects in basements. Water enters the basement in a number of ways. Either the basement sits below the water table or because water from the rain or ground comes through the drains of a waterproofing system.

The job of a sump pump is to pump the water away from the house to a place like a storm drain or dry well. There are two types of  sump pumps, pedestal or submersible. Sump pumps are most often hardwired into the electrical system of the house and they  may have battery backup.Sump pumps vary in price, they can range from $60 to $300. However, the price depends on the type of pump, how they are powered and if they have a backup system. The Wayne Thermoplastic Pedestal Sump Pump from Northern Tools is only $59.99. This sump pump (model # PTU30) is great for homeowners needing to replace their current submersible pump without having to do any changes to plumbing. The flow is 2,800 GPH@ five feet with 1/3 HP. The discharge port is 1.5 in. and the minimum basin needed  is 11 inches.

Also, both the volute and impeller shaft are thermoplastic and corrosion resistant. The Wayne Thermoplastic Pedestal Sump Pump has a heavy duty air cooled motor and is designed for a sump basin that is at least 11 inches in diameter. Another great feature of this sump pump is that it has an adjustable vertical float which allows the homeowner to change the operating cycle to fit their application.

Another sump pump, available from Northern Tools, is the Wayne Emergency Backup Sump Pump. This emergency pump can move up to 3300 GPH. This is a great investment at $219.99, it can protect your home in times of emergency, like when losing power to a storm.  This back up sump pump, model #ESP25, does require a 75Ah deep cycle marine battery, which is not included with purchase of the pump. Some other great features of this pump include corrosion resistant thermoplastic construction, a float switch for automatic operation and is compatible with most other pedestal and submersible sump pumps. Lastly, the Wayne Emergency Backup Sump Pump has an alarm system in order to notify the homeowner when the backup system is activated.

Installing a quality battery backup sump pump is a great way to ensure you avoid having wet basements in the future, and believe me, it's nice to be able to go downstairs in the spring and not have to worry about a wet mess!
